Summer is just around the corner and Green Seattle Partnership is excited to share seasonal opportunities that will provide youth with valuable, hands-on experience in ecological restoration and community care. Through these career exposure and job training programs. youth work with our partner organizations to care for Seattle parklands while learning about how we nurture Seattle’s urban forests and support community resiliency in the face of climate change.

Green Seattle Partnership Opportunities

Student Conservation Association (SCA): Seattle Community Program 

Age range: High school students 

When: Programs run Monday-Friday from July to August  

About: SCA is a national non-profit that coordinates service learning and job training programming in the environmental conservation field.

Participants will: 

  • Restore habitat and build trails in Seattle parks 
  • Explore green career opportunities and issues facing the environment and communities 
  • Build leadership skills as they work on a team of diverse peers 
  • Learn about our local environment through field trips, outdoor recreation, and service projects 
  • Gain the necessary skills and experience to enter green and public service career sector 

Tilth Alliance: Rainier Beach Youth Steward (RBYS) 

Age range: 14-18 years old 

When: June 18–August 30. Every Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday; 10 a.m.- 3 p.m. Total of 10 weeks. Will adjust hours when school is in session. 

About: Tilth Alliance recruits participants through youth-service organizations and community-based organizations in Rainier Beach, prioritizing BIPOC youth from in and around Rainier Beach. Participants will engage in wetland restoration and related environmental education activities. 

Participants spend each week at Rainier Beach Urban Farm and Wetlands engaging in farm activities such as planting, harvesting, and packing produce, field management, wetland restoration, working a farm stand and more. 

Partners in Employment (PIE): Youth Restoration Crew 

Age range: 16-24 years old 

When: Summer programming will run June 26 – August 23, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Additional fall cohort will run September – early November.

About: Partner in Employment helps immigrant and refugee youth find jobs, skills trainings, and educational opportunities, offering deep mentorship and employment assistance. Learn about environmental issues and careers, help your community through ecological restoration, and get paid! Participants work in south Seattle at Kubota Gardens Natural Area as well as in Tukwila and Sea Tac.

Futures Rising: Restoration and Co-Creation 

Ages: Youth 

When: Futures Rising plans to have summer youth programming that centers Indigenous Youth in a multi-generational practice of belonging and exploration of cultural practices, visit their Instagram for updates. 

About: Programming focuses on stewardship, placemaking and land-based education activities that integrate art, climate justice, traditional Indigenous foods, and medicine to support BIPOC community involvement.  

Delridge Neighborhoods Development Association (DNDA) Nature: Summer Youth Programming 

Age range: High school students 

When: Ranges based on program 

About: DNDA Nature’s summer youth programing focuses on environmental justice, community engagement, and the historic and current ecology of our local landscape. Participants learn about the places and parks in the Longfellow Creek corridor, including Roxhill Bog and Camp Long. Please note DNDA Nature will work in partnership with Seattle Housing Authority at High Point and teachers from Chief Sealth to recruit 10 high-school-aged youth for this paid 4-week program.
