Coming prepared for Earth Day with Green Seattle Partnership

Volunteers often come with the expectation to plant trees for Earth Day. While we absolutely love planting trees, April is a time to care for plants that were recently installed during the PNW’s most appropriate planting window of November to early March.

While the planting season has come to a close, there are so many ways to celebrate earth day here in the greater Seattle area, check out below for upcoming events or volunteer with GSP this Earth Month through CEDAR. Learn more about why we don’t plant trees for Earth Day here.

Earth Month Events 

Earth month is an expansion on Earth Day, first celebrated in 1970 on April 22nd to promote protection of our shared environment – with local actions and a global outlook. Read more at EarthDay.org

Green Minds – New Friends: Networking Event by YMCA Outdoor Leadership 

Join YMCA Outdoor Leadership on April 3rd from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Project 9 Brewing for a networking event for professionals in the environmental and educational fields. Learn more and reserve your spot here.

April River Clean Up! by River Access Paddle Program

Earth Day with Dirt Corps 

Join Dirt Corps on April 12th at Westcrest Park from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm to celebrate Earth Month in the lead up to Earth Day and help Dirt Corps care for this section of the West Duwamish Greenbelt. Learn more and reserve your spot.

Earth day falls on a Tuesday, so celebrate the weekend before at these events!

Earth Day Run at Magnuson Park 

Come down to Magnuson Park on April 19th at 10:00am for an Earth Day Run! There are 5k, 10k, 15k and kids dash options for folks to choose from. Learn more and register to get your spot.

Join Earth Corps at Kubota Gardens Natural Area on April 19th from 10:00am – 1:00 pm for a morning of restoration. Learn more here.

Seattle’s Innovation & Leadership in Climate Equity  

Join Seattle Parks Foundation for a conversation with local leaders in climate and equity this Earth Day on April 22nd at Town Hall Seattle. Doors will open at 6:30pm, and the event will begin at 7:30pm. Tickets are on sale now.

Rainier Vista Community Earth Day Celebration 

 Join Rainier Vista as they host their second annual Earth Day Celebration on April 23rd from 3:00pm – 5:00pm in Rainier Vista’s Central Park. The event will include sustainable craft workshops, fun activities, food, and more. No event RSVP is available.

Lady Bug Festival 

Head over to Garfield Community Center Garden on April 26th from 2:00 – 4:00 pm to see the annual release of ladybugs in the Garfield Community Center Garden and can participate in fun, educational, and hands-on activities. Learn more about the event here.
