Be part of something exciting as EarthCorps, Seattle Parks and Recreation, Green Seattle Partnership, Friends of Seward Park and Esurance team up for a day dedicated to urban forest restoration at Seward park. We will continue to maintain our restoration sites, prepare the restoration sites for fall planting of native plant species, and remove English ivy from this stand of old growth forest right in the city! Home to diverse wildlife and impressive trees, Seward Park is enjoyed by walkers, cyclists, and those who love the outdoors.
English ivy is a threat to the great trees that make Seward Park their home. English ivy is a non-native invasive plant species with no natural predators or pests to keep it under control. The ivy poses a threat to places like Seward Park two ways, by creating "Ivy Deserts" which are areas so dominated by ivy that no other vegetation can survive and by adding weight to trees, making the trees more susceptible to toppling over and to disease. By manually ripping ivy out of the park, we are helping to prevent this invasive species from taking hold and spreading.
Registration Closed.
Near by sites: Hitt's Hill, Colman Park , Frink Park, and E Duwamish Greenbelt.
