9/11 Ravenna Woods - United Way Day of Caring

Come and help restore wildlife habitat at Ravenna Woods Park. We will concentrate on weeding the areas where we planted native trees and shrubs in the past, and if there is time, we will expand our maintained area.

Time: 9 AM to 2 PM

Where to meet: South of 4701 Ravenna Avenue NE:  just walk south on Ravenna Avenue NE past the house at 4701 Ravenna Avenue NE until you see people working. There will be a table set up with sign-in sheets.  If it is raining, the sign in desk may be located under the carport at 4701 Ravenna Avenue NE. PLEASE REMEMBER TO SIGN IN!!!!  Documenting the number of volunteer hours is critical for us to qualify for matching grants for plants, etc.

What to bring: Much of the area where we will be working will be muddy (boot-sucking mud), so wear waterproof boots and old comfortable clothes that you won't mind getting muddy. There will be blackberries and stinging nettles in some areas, so you should wear long sleeves and long pants despite the warm weather. We will hold the work party rain or shine, so if the weather warrants, wear rain gear - I strongly recommend both a rain jacket and rain pants.  Although we will provide some snacks, if you are staying after noon, we recommend that you bring a bag lunch and some water.

Address and directions to site: Directions from either northbound or southbound 25th Ave. NE, near University Village:  turn west onto NE Blakely St. (stoplight by the Burke-Gilman Trail crossing), then take the first immediate left (this is actually the continuation of NE Blakely St.). Continue on NE Blakely St. to NE 51st St.  Turn right (west) onto NE 51st St. and continue to Ravenna Ave NE.  Turn left (south) onto Ravenna Ave NE. Ravenna Ave NE turns into a dirt/gravel road approximately 2 blocks south of NE 51st St.  Park on the asphalt road and walk to the Park, since there is no parking on the dirt/gravel section of the road. Ravenna Woods is the forested open space on the west side of the road, located immediately south of the house at 4701 Ravenna Avenue NE.

Where to park: Parking is extremely limited. Please park before the end of the pavement on Ravenna Ave. NE and walk in. Carpooling is encouraged.
