Join EarthCorps, the Green Seattle Partnership and the Heron Habitat Helpers as we continue to restore the wildlife corridor adjacent to Kiwanis Ravine. The Kiwanis Ravine in Seattle’s Magnolia neighborhood just east of Discovery Park. At just 14 acres this Seattle Park space is home to Seattle’s largest heron rookery with over 60 active nests. Come help out our herons by installing new native trees & shrubs.
Participants should expect to learn a brief history of the Kiwanis Wildlife Corridor and an overview of Seattle's urban forests.
EarthCorps staff will discuss forest structure, native vs. non-native plant species, environmental restoration and safety. We will spend the day working to restore this urban forest to a healthier state. Volunteers will be removing invasive plants and performing restoration site maintenance (weeding and woodchip application). This work will make the forest a healthier system, one that will remain for future generations of the community to enjoy.
