Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Do you have to be a Forest Steward to come to the classes?

A. No.  Although the topics of the trainings were selected based on the requests of current Green Seattle Partnership Forest Stewards they are open to anyone who is interested in forest restoration.  We would love it if interested participants wanted to join the ranks of the GSP Forest Stewards.

Q.  What if I can't attend all 7 of the training sessions?

A. No problem.  Each training session is a contained class that can be taken independently of the others. Come to the classes that interest you or could help you with your restoration project.

Q.  Are there any incentives for stewards who attend all 7 trainings?

A. Oh, the incentives.  Word travels fast about the possibility of an incentive for GSP Forest Stewards who attend all 7 trainings.  There will indeed be an incentive program kicking off in the Fall/Winter of 2010.  Some of the Forest Restoration Training Series classes will be video taped for an on-line resources program that will be launched late 2010.  There will be an assessment (examples: quiz or small task) for Forest Stewards who complete all 5 video trainings. Those Forest Stewards who attend the "live" training/taping of those trainings are eligible to  complete the online assessment when it is launched. More details about this incentive program will be announced as the production of the video trainings gets rolling.  The incentive program is thanks to a grant from the USFS to support Stewards in Seattle and Tacoma with professional crew time for their restoration projects.

There is of course benefits for Forest Stewards to attend the live trainings because they can learn valuable information about forest restoration, interact with presenters, and participate in hands on activities.

Q.  What if I can't make one of the trainings? Could I make it up another time?

These trainings will just be held one time, although we do hope to have some of them available for the on-line video trainings this fall.  Also, we will do our best to post resources from each training online here at greenseattle.org.
